Titanium is a chemical element with an atomic number of 22 that is classified as a transition metal on the periodic table. Titanium alloy is an alloy composed of titanium (Ti) as a base and other elements. In titanium alloys, in addition to titanium itself, other alloying elements such as aluminum (Al), vanadium (V), nickel (Ni), molybdenum (Mo), and iron (Fe) are added. The alloying elements are added to improve the performance of the titanium, such as to improve the strength, hardness and heat resistance, corrosion resistance, etc. This alloy material combines the excellent characteristics of titanium itself and the improvement effect brought by other elements, and plays an important role in many fields such as aerospace, biomedicine, chemical industry, sports and leisure.
From the perspective of microstructure, the addition of alloying elements can change the crystal structure and phase composition of titanium. Depending on the type and content of alloying elements, titanium alloys can show α phase, β phase or α + β phase structure. Industrial pure titanium is divided into TA1(UNS R50250) according to the impurity content. ASTM Grade1), TA2 (UNSR50400,ASTM Grade2), TA3 (UNSR50550,ASTM Grade3), TA4(UNSR50700,Grade4) and other grades of TA4 also have high titanium content. General titanium (Ti) content is not less than 99.5%, and other industrial pure titanium grades, the main impurity elements include iron (Fe), carbon (C), nitrogen (N), hydrogen (H), oxygen (O) and so on.
