The pressure processing of titanium alloy is more similar to the processing of steel than the processing of nonferrous metals and alloys. Many technological parameters of titanium alloy in forging, volume stamping and plate stamping are close to those of steel processing. But there are also some important characteristics that must be paid attention to when pressing titanium and titanium alloys.
(1) The blade with positive angle geometry is used to reduce cutting force, cutting heat and workpiece deformation.
(2) Maintain stable feeding to avoid hardening of the workpiece. The tool shall always be in the feeding state during the cutting process. During milling, the radial feed a e shall be 30% of the radius.
(3) High pressure and large flow cutting fluid is used to ensure the thermal stability of the machining process and prevent the workpiece surface from changing and tool damage due to excessive temperature.
(4) Keep the blade sharp. The blunt tool is the cause of heat accumulation and wear, which is easy to lead to tool failure.
(5) As far as possible, it should be processed in the soft state of titanium alloy, because the material becomes more difficult to process after hardening. Heat treatment improves the strength of the material and increases the wear of the blade.
Due to the heat resistance of titanium, cooling is very important in the processing of titanium alloys. The purpose of cooling is to prevent the blade and tool surface from overheating. Use the end coolant, so that the best chip removal effect can be achieved when square shoulder milling and face milling recesses, cavities or full grooves. When cutting titanium metal, the chip is easy to stick to the blade, causing the next round of milling cutter rotation to cut the chip again, which often causes the edge line to break. Each type of blade cavity has its own coolant hole/filling fluid to solve this problem and enhance stable blade performance.
Another clever solution is the threaded cooling holes. Long edge milling cutter has many blades. High pump capacity and pressure are required to apply coolant to each hole. The utility model is different in that it can block the unnecessary holes according to the needs, so as to maximize the liquid flow to the needed holes.
