Nickel-niobium master alloy 65% is mainly used in the production of special nickel steel and nickel-based superalloys. Niobium improves the mechanical properties, creep resistance and weldability of steels and superalloys.
The melting points of niobium and base metals are very different, making it difficult to add pure niobium to the molten bath. In contrast, nickel niobium is very soluble because its melting point is close to or below the standard operating temperature.
This master alloy is also used to add niobium to copper-nickel alloys to improve mechanical properties in cryogenic applications.
