Application of ferroalloys

As deoxidizer for steelmaking, silicon manganese, ferromanganese and ferrosilicon are widely used. Strong deoxidizers are aluminum (aluminum iron), silicon calcium, silicon zirconium, etc. (see deoxidation reaction of steel). Common varieties used as alloy additives include: Ferromanganese, ferrochromium, ferrosilicon, ferrotungsten, ferromolybdenum, ferrovanadium, ferrotitanium, ferronickel, niobium (tantalum) iron, rare earth iron alloy, ferroboron, ferrophosphorus, etc. How much do you know about the application of ferroalloys? According to the needs of steelmaking, many grades of ferroalloys are specified according to the content of alloying elements or carbon content, and the content of impurities is strictly limited. Ferroalloys containing two or more alloying elements are called composite ferroalloys. Deoxidizing or alloying elements can be added at the same time by using such ferroalloys, which is beneficial to the steelmaking process and can comprehensively utilize the symbiotic ore resources economically and reasonably. Commonly used are: manganese silicon, silicon calcium, silicon zirconium, silicon manganese aluminum, silicon manganese calcium and rare earth ferrosilicon.

Pure metal additives for steelmaking include aluminum, titanium, nickel, metal silicon, metal manganese and metal chromium. Some reducible oxides such as MoO and NiO are also used to replace ferroalloys. In addition, there are iron nitride alloys, such as chromium iron and manganese iron after nitriding treatment, and heating iron alloys mixed with heating agents.
